My boy rejected Chinese when he was young as he was brought up in an English-speaking home. He went to the extent of rejecting his own Chinese name. We were very concerned and worried. What is so special about these books?
These series teach mainly Chinese reading using the flashcard method for children as young as 1 year old. Each book comprises of 20 pages with words on one page and picture on the next page (you need to flip over), printed on good papers. All our books have BIG fonts. This feature helps the child to see clearly and easily. In most books, pictures and words are presented together. This will hinder the child from focusing on the words because the colourful pictures are grabbing all the attention. Our words and pictures are placed separately to ensure that the child focuses on the words only when being taught. This feature helps to child to learn the words quickly because there is maximum focus. For our Chinese books, we do not place Hanyupinyin with the words. This is to prevent distraction and over-reliance. The main concept is to help children pick up Chinese words independently through sight reading.
The first page of each book gives the instruction on "How do I teach my child to read" and the last page of the book summarizes the words taught in that book with Hanyupinyin to help parents to read to the child or for parent’s reference.
